Welcome to KI5WKB, which is my FCC callsign. My name is Stephen Houser and this page is dedicated to the journey of any new HAM. I hold a Technician level license at this time and own two radios capable of VHF/UHF (2m/70cm), 10m, and 6 meter transmission. My first radio is a Baofeng BF-F8TD and my second radio is a TYT TH-9800.
If you are here, hopefully it is because you are starting your journey as a HAM. I post everything I learn and use here on this page and my goal is to be able to help you as you start out. Whether you have already taken your Technician level exam, are studying for it, or have had your license for a little while, I hope am able to help you with my postings.
In a world filled with instant online communication, HAM radio begins to seem esoteric in many ways, but do not be fooled, there is nothing like keying up the mic and hearing friendly voice on the other end. Talking over the radio provides a certain closeness and camaraderie, experienced in very few other mediums. The future of HAM radio certainly seems bright in the maker community as well. There is nothing like putting together a piece of equipment yourself…and having it work.
I have found that almost everyone I have met in ham radio has been willing to go out of there way to help me get on the air and get educated. The spirit of the hobby seems to me mutual aid and friendship and that is what I love about it.
